When I was growing up my family always had a tradition of celebrating New Year's Eve by setting out a bunch of food -- pizza, assorted chips, snack mix, drinks, etc. Most was stuff we loved but rarely got to have. Then we would eat and watch movies all night. It was great! When Jeremy and I got married we joined my family for a few years until we had Dalton and needed to get him to bed before midnight. So, rather than just give up on the celebrating, we started inviting people without kids to join us at our house. That way, we could put our kids to bed and still stay up and watch movies and play games. It has now evolved into a tradition for assorted members of Jeremy's family to join us for dinner and then an evening of games and possibly a movie.
This year was the first year everyone came. Collin even brought his girlfriend, Sarah. Ryan and Ashlee left early to get their kids to bed but everyone else stayed til midnight. It was so much fun! We had dinner and snacks, played card games, board games and even Wii games and then watched Knight and Day to finish the evening.
I'm sure that as more couples have kids who need to get to bed our party will dwindle a little but it sure is fun to get together to play all night.

Sounds like a fun tradition. This year we went down the street to the neighbors house and played a bunch of games and ate all sorts of junk with the cul-de-sac neighbors while the kids watched movies downstairs. Then the last half hour before midnight we went to the house next door and had a dance party in the garage to bring in the New Year. (They have a disco ball, spotlights, a big screen TV on the wall, etc. We have lots of parties in there....) :) Rebekah and Julianne took off on us this year to be with friends. They're getting older...
