Then we talked about how Satan is fighting a war with each of us and how he keeps attacking but we can build spiritual fortifications around ourselves. We decided that some of those fortifications are prayer, reading the scriptures, going to church, going to the temple, service, obeying the commandments and others. As we discussed, we built a fortress out of blocks and taped on wordstrips that had our spiritual fortifications.

Book of Mormon Camp - Day 2
Today we talked about Captain Moroni. We discussed how he led the armies of the Nephites and because they were righteous they were able to defeat the Lamanites. But, even after the Lamanites retreated, Capt. Moroni had the people build fortifications around all their cities. We read in Alma 50 where they made great mounds of dirt around the cities. Then they placed tall timbers on top of the dirt. On top of the timbers they put pickets or sharp sticks. Then they built towers overlooking those pickets and places of security on top of the towers. We talked about how from the towers they would be able to see the dangers coming and keep them from entering their cities.

At the end we also discussed how important it is to surround ourselves with good things and good reminders to help us stay strong. So, I let the kids pick out a picture of Jesus that they liked and then we went and got a wood plaque and we are in the process of painting the wood and then attaching the picture so they can have it in their rooms.
The finished product:
