Dalton has been telling us over and over again that his coach was going to have him play catcher but it never happened. On Monday, he was just putting on the catcher's gear when they ended the game. So, he was promised that he would get to be the catcher at the next game. I didn't think it would happen. When the catcher came out to warm up it took me a few minutes to realize that it was Dalton.
I was impressed. I was worried that he would struggle being the catcher, but he actually did pretty well. He was really good at catching most of the pitcher's balls even when they were off target.
His crowning moment of the evening was when the ball came to him and the runner was heading to second base. We could tell he wanted to throw the ball to the second baseman and we all yelled at him to hold the ball. Typically when they try to throw the ball with the pressure on like that, they over throw and then the runner actually gets several more bases. Dalton ignored everyone and threw the ball to second base, it was caught and the runner was tagged out. It was a great play!
This game was their last regular season game. Now they start the playoffs. They are either in 1st or 2nd in the league. The other team that they are neck and neck with has a game on Tuesday and if they win, then they are in first, but if they lose, we will be in first. It's pretty exciting stuff for the boys!

Wow, he sure looks competent. He has all the right stances and looks athletic! I'm impressed with his ball playing. Grandma Dalton
